The initial OARiNZ project steering group was formed as a result of the workshop conducted by TEC on 7 April, 2006. Preliminary concepts were presented and discussed, and the synergies identified. This formed the basis of concerted discussions that were to take place over the ensuing two weeks, with Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT) playing a central role in negotiations with various stakeholders. The core steering group during that time included representatives of CPIT, The Open Polytechnic, The University of Otago, and two non-TEO stakeholders - The National Library and John Rankin of Affinity Limited .
